Whispering garden
May 7 to August 14, 2022
Project content:
What kind of world do you want to live in?' That question is central to Arcadia's entire program. What do you leave behind to the world?
The city center of Leeuwarden is colored green for 100 days. Between May 7 and August 14, more than 1,000 trees walked through the city. This 'walking' forest was set in motion by hundreds of participants and has given the trees - and therefore nature - a voice. With a packed program of exhibitions, exhibitions, performances and meetings, publications in various online and offline magazines, newspapers, newspapers, attention for the theme on TV, the radio, in council meetings and even a lawsuit for the rights of nature, Bosk drew attention to the need to look differently at the relationship between people and nature.
'If trees can walk, we can change'
Arcadia is a 100-day, very diverse cultural program created by thousands of Frisians. From international artists to people from villages and neighborhoods in Fryslân.
From Campus Connect, we have created a BOSK side program together with our partners and students from NHL Stenden and local artists.
The Whispering Garden
The Whispering Garden mirrors the walking forest of Bosk. In this hidden place you will find several projects or activities, divided under the names Green Oasis and Blue Oasis. For example, you can sail a route along the pot margin with a whisper boat, including a guide and equipment, and you will find various works of art, some of which you can also contribute to!
A place in the middle of the city, but without the city noise. a place where the city noise is displaced by the sounds of the trees, which tell stories about the Pot Margin!
In addition to the fact that the artists are all local makers, some of the projects also involve students from various courses at NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences.
A number of projects fall within the program line:
Sunrise and Sunset Inner Voice tour
With the whisper boat, the Nature & Art street art works of art, and the participation tree. Inner Voice is an art project realized by sound artist Tristan Visser and David Marcel de Jong, with the aim of making everyone on a whisper boat quiet and reflect on how you relate to the sound image of an environment.
Nature & Art – Whispering Garden Exhibition Artist Roy Schreuder, together with students from NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, created a number of large works, which you can find in the Whispering Garden. And who knows, you can also provide some input yourself, because they finish it on location! So sit on the grass and view the work of art in the making!
Participation tree Whispering garden
The participation tree is a work of art in collaboration with Teodora Roka, in which sound, nature and the people in and around it work together. You can see this work of art change: due to the changing weather conditions, but also due to your presence: inside or outside. Pull strings and experience a completely different sound, but check it out in, say, two months and discover more leaves and other sounds! In total you can see this change over the 100 days of Arcadia.
