The connectors

Irene de Heer

I have been part of our Nordic Campus Connect team since September 2021.

My passion lies in 'designing and creating'. There is plenty of room for this within our Campus team! For me, visualizing is also the way to inspire our students and partners, in a short and powerful way. A picture says more than 1000 words!

As a Campus Connect team, we are in training at IMA to develop concepts for our Nordic Campus. The first concept we are working on is the Vitality Trail.

In September 2022 I was able to make an inspirational trip to Denmark. Here I saw how the Danes deal with vitality, sustainability, inclusion and urban sports, among other things. We are now making a translation to our Nordic Campus (Leeuwarden) and specifically to the Vitality Trail.

A wonderful start for more great concepts on our Nordic Campus!

Giso Boelens

Married to Mariëlle and proud father of 3 children.
My passion lies in sports. “Movement + Life = Experience!”

I get a special feeling of happiness from moving. The mental part of individual sports in which you can challenge yourself to achieve a performance or to completely de-stress. The element of working together, winning together, losing together in a team sport. I experience these team processes as extremely educational and in many cases they are a metaphor for “real” life. Where shared passion is present, these processes are intense and necessary to move forward together. I like to contribute to such team processes.

In recent years I have been responsible for various sports centers and I have also organized sports events through coordination functions. In these institutions, the human approach has always played a very important role, both within the team of colleagues and in the services provided. Making a difference by combining personal attention with professional services. I have always been very interested in people's motivations and how they relate to needs and choices.

Since September 2022, I have been working within the Nordic Campus Connect team on researching the needs and serving our students and other campus visitors. We do this by offering a program with, for and by students on and around the campuses and developing new concepts. I hope to contribute to lively and vibrant Nordic Campus locations in the coming years.

MARTINE DRIESSEN

I have been working at NHL Stenden for years, where I have held various positions. The common thread within these positions was contact with people and organizing various affairs and events.

I took this experience with me to my current position at Nordic Campus Connect in September 2021. My role within the team is to guide our interns. Together with them we develop a monthly program for the Nordic Campus locations. In Leeuwarden we work from our “living room” BRÛZE on the most beautiful events in the field of sports, art & culture, (student) well-being and fun! Culture and the seasons are clearly visible here! We seek and strengthen the connection with our environment; SMEs, the municipality, welfare authorities and the local residents of our campus locations.

In addition to the learning process for the student, I find the social aspect, networking and meeting very important. With the environment, but also with each other. We learn by doing. Evaluate together and improve the program and events for the future.

Besides the fact that the interns have an assignment to complete for their studies, I also want to give them an indelible and vibrant memory! Creating memories at Nordic Campus!

MANDY HOLWERDA

Hospitality is my passion!

Welcoming guests to our café 'BRÛZE' and seeing them leave with a smile is what I enjoy most.

My responsibilities lie in coordinating the café, creating a nice vibrant place for students, local residents and anyone who fancy a cup of coffee or needs to socialize; I'm always up for a chat!

Networking with visitors while tapping their beer has never been easier! I always find it interesting to discover what everyone is doing and often see possibilities or opportunities to start a collaboration.

With my background in communications, I am also involved in the positioning of both Nordic Campus Connect and our living room; BRÛZE. I also get a lot of energy from this!

Everything is possible in BRÛZE, as long as everyone is welcome! Will we see you soon too?
